읽기와 쓰기를 배우기 시작하는 학습자는 물론, 모든 연령층의 영어 학습에 아주 적합한 교재이다. – 이 교재에는 아이들이나 어른들이 단독으로 또는 협동적으로 윤곽만 뚜렷이 그려 놓은 삽화들에 색칠하면서 배울 수 있는 일상적인 기본 어휘와 즉독어(卽讀語)가 들어 있다.
이 책은 모든 연령의 학습자가 새 어휘와 중요한 즉독어(卽讀語)를 재미있게 배울 수 있도록 만들었다. 또한, 어른들과 아이들은 이 단어들을 느긋한 기분으로 색칠하면서 배우게 된다. 그림들은 윤곽이 뚜렷하고, 우습기도 하며, 이해하기 쉬워서 학습자들은 창의적인 상상력을 발휘하여 색칠하는 재미를 만끽하게 된다. 학습자들이 유용한 가정용품, 자동차 부품, 인체 각부의 이름이나 공구(工具)들의 이름을 알고 싶다면, 이 책에서 해당하는 그림들에 색칠하면서 그 이름들을 모두 배우고 이야기해 볼 수 있다.
이 책은 40개의 기본 어휘 주제를 다루고 있으며, 각 페이지마다 10개씩의 그림을 싣고 있는데, 각 책장의 앞면에는 대문자의 낱말로, 뒷면에는 소문자의 낱말을 기입해 두었다. 학습자들은 양면의 그림을 색칠하면서 대문자와 소문자를 자연스럽게 비교하며 익힐 수 있다.

Introduction: Notes to the Teacher
Coloring in English is intended for basic literacy and/or beginning ESL learners of all ages. It works best as a low-pressure, fun activity. Adults and children can relax and color as they learn new vocabulary and important sight words.
Most of the pages are repeated side-by-side, usually as "mirror images" with FULL CAPS on one side and Upper and Lower Case print on the other. The learners can color whatever appeals to them, all or part of either picture, or both. They will naturally compare the words in full caps with those not in caps.
There are a few "extra" pictures and inconsistencies in format added for fun and to encourage questions.
I hope your students have as much fun coloring these pages in English as my editors and I have had putting this book together.
